EL AL- IMPROVED INTERNET CHECK-IN AT HEATHROW
Heathrow is the first airport in the entire El Al network to allow passengers to check-in online, print their Airport Authority compatible final boarding pass and, if travelling with hand baggage only, proceed direct to their aircraft departure gate to clear El Al security. Passengers with baggage should go to the designated baggage drop-off desk.
This new development is largely down to the multi-million dollar investment El Al has made in cutting edge security technology. The technology is geared to provide a less intrusive, but still robust security procedure, expand the options available to passengers and provide them with a better airport experience.
The benefits of internet check-in are that it can be conducted from 3 to 24 hours prior to departure from home, office or hotel and will save time, a valuable commodity especially for business travellers, at Heathrow where passengers with luggage can now arrive 2 hours 15 minutes rather than 3 hours as previous. Carry on luggage passengers should arrive at the airport 1hour 30 minutes prior to departure.

JAMES BIDWELL WELCOMES OPENING OF T5
Visit London, the capital’s official visitor organisation, has today welcomed the opening of Terminal 5 at London Heathrow saying it will alleviate the pressures experienced at Heathrow. Visit London Chief Executive James Bidwell said:
“T5 will provide visitors to London and the UK with a spectacular first impression and alleviate the pressure experienced at Heathrow, the world’s busiest airport. “The terminal’s smoother check-in process and state-of-the-art baggage management system will certainly better the tourist experience and should help improve the airport’s international reputation.”
London is the number one city destination in the world for international travel and in 2006* welcomed a record 15.6 million overseas visitors. Visit London forecasts that 2007 will also result in a record year for overseas visitors to the capital – 16 million visitors.
“London is the gateway to the UK. Almost 50% of all overseas visitors to the capital visit London and around 75% come through London’s airports. The visitor experience commences from the moment of arrival and by improving the quality of its welcome, London will be better placed to maintain its competitive advantage and to compete effectively in the global tourism market,” Mr Bidwell said.

UNITED MOBILE'S NEW DATA SIM CARD
United Mobile, the international Swiss mobile communications provider known primarily for its reasonably priced international mobile calling services, is expanding its range of services to include an interesting new offer – a data roaming product. With this product, travellers can work without having to connect to a public WLAN network. The new product should be available on the market in April.
The product was specifically made with business travellers in mind – travellers requiring mobile access to the Internet while sitting in an airport lounge, a café after a business meeting, or in a train while on the way home. The card can be used in both notebooks and mobile phones.
“Internet usage is increasingly heading in the mobile direction. In this way, our data product corresponds to the strong need of travellers to be able to check, for example, their email even while on the go, without having to connect to other networks – and this at reasonable prices. What is more, our customers always have complete cost control using the prepaid method,” states United Mobile CEO Charles Fränkl as he explains the advantages of the new offer for business travellers.
According to a report by the European Union, costs for 1 MB of data within the EU last summer totalled an average of £4.11. This is where United Mobile takes the offensive: Its international price of £0.75/MB is a big hit for customers and is 80% cheaper in comparison to the average price in Europe.
The service is currently available in over 15 countries (mainly in Europe), including Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Great Britain, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Hungary, Croatia, Bulgaria, Serbia / Montenegro and Slovenia. “We have set ambitious goals for ourselves. By the end of the year, we would like our new product to be available in 30 countries,” says CEO Charles Fränkl.

COUPLES WITH KIDS SPEND ONLY 9.8 DAYS OF QUALITY TIME TOGETHER A YEAR
According to research by Holiday Inn, the average mum and dad manage to squeeze in just 15 minutes a day enjoying each other's company amid their hectic family life - and that's nearly always in bed.
Most parents are able to relax and chat for just five minutes together before the kids wake up, and 10 minutes at night before going to sleep. And, on one precious night of the year, they will call in other family members to look after the children to allow them an overnight stay in a hotel together.
Chris Hale, spokesman for Holiday Inn, which commissioned the study, said: ''It's quite shocking how little time couples have together when their children are young. I'm sure most parents wouldn't change having their kids for the world, but it's pretty tough on a relationship. Getting away is clearly a really important treat for parents - I bet most of them must really look forward to that one night a year in a great, big, comfy hotel bed.''
Busy modern day lifestyles will see couples call on a babysitter once a month to give them a much-deserved opportunity of four hours in a pub, club or restaurant.
The poll of 4,500 people also revealed that parents only get 235.25 hours a year together without the children. And during the average month couples can expect to enjoy only two cosy nights in front of the television together, at around three hours a time.
But those loved up couples who DON'T have kids don't have to get out of bed until 7:30am and are able to eat dinner together and have a leisurely evening together before retiring to the bedroom. They also have the luxury of being able to go out for drinks, dinner and short breaks together whenever they like.
It also emerged that, after taking the luxury of a five minute cuddle in the morning, both parents get out of bed and tend to the children.
Most folk wash first, then have breakfast, and, once the kids are sorted, get ready for work. A full day's work is then followed by a 27 minute meal with the children, 34 minutes of helping with homework or playing and a 26 minute bedtime routine.
Once the children are in bed, men and women have very different ways of spending their evenings. The household chores are shared for approximately 37 minutes, but after that men can be found working on their computers, whilst women put their feet up in front of their favourite soap opera. The average couple then goes to bed for 11pm, and spends 10 minutes having a deep and meaningful conversation about the day's events, issues and worries before going to sleep.
Chris Hale, for Holiday Inn, added: ''Once the kids have left home a huge number of our guests are escaping for four or more weekend breaks across the UK - that should offer some kind of hope for parents with younger children.''
Other facts revealed by the Holiday Inn survey include:
63% of couples feel sad they never get to spend quality time alone with their partner.
44% genuinely believe the only time they ever get to enjoy each other's company and communicate properly is on those rare snatched nights away from home.
67% want to make more of an effort to romance their other half, taking more breaks and using babysitting services more often. Accommodation

BRITS TAKE TOP SPOT AT TABA HEIGHTS
Taba Heights, Egypt’s most naturally luxurious resort, has confirmed its ever-increasing popularity with UK guests.
New figures just released indicate that Taba Heights is a firm favourite with travelling Brits, with around one in three room nights (38%) being filled by guests from the UK. This trend is significant since the French account for the second highest number of room nights, representing just 12% of the total.
In terms of actual numbers, the UK also retains top spot, with 28% of arrivals being British. Again, this is a stretch ahead of neighbouring Israel in second place, which provides 11% of arrivals ahead of France with 9%.
Overall, the resort is also delighted to report a 19% increase on occupancy figures for 2007 when compared to the previous year. Occupancy across all five hotels was higher than in 2006, to give the highest overall occupancy the resort has experienced since its beginnings in 2000.
The most popular months to visit were August, October and November, demonstrating the resort’s continuing popularity as a year round destination.

IT'S ALL BUSINESS WITH SINGAPORE AIRLINES
Singapore Airlines is converting five of its Airbus A340-500 ultra-long-range aircraft into an all-Business Class configuration, for daily flights between Singapore and New York, and Singapore and Los Angeles.
The current 2-class, 181 seat, arrangement will be replaced with 100 of the airline’s new award-winning Business Class seats, in a 4-abreast, 1-2-1, layout. Each seat is upholstered in leather, and is 30 inches (76 cm) wide.
Every seat will have direct access to the aisle, and will convert to a fully flat bed. The new Business Class seats are the same design as those fitted on the airline’s A380 and Boeing 777-300ER fleet.
Singapore Airlines Executive Vice President Marketing and Regions, Mr Huang Cheng Eng, said the change recognises the popularity from business travellers for the award-winning Business Class products introduced on other aircraft type.
“The new Business Class is being very well-received by our customers on long-range flights. The new product is the perfect fit for the ultra-long-haul services between Singapore and the USA.
“The peak demand for the non-stop flights is from our Business Class customers, and this change will expand Business Class capacity from 64 to 100 seats on each flight,” Mr Huang said.
The implementation will be phased in gradually from mid May, 2008, on the Singapore-New York route, with daily services in the new all-Business Class arrangement to New York by end June, and Los Angeles by late September, 2008. The program will require each of the five A340-500 aircraft to be retrofitted in turn.
Airlines flies 46 times weekly between Singapore and the USA, with multiple daily flights serving Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York. The daily non-stop flights to Los Angeles and New York are complemented by other one-stop flights to each destination daily. And in March, Singapore Airlines will add Houston to its route network with a four-times-weekly flight from Singapore, via Moscow.
